Dr. Jessica Liaw grew up in the Seattle area. She earned her B.S. Physiology with Honors from the University of Washington and her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry. She completed a residency in cornea and contact lenses at Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University.

Dr. Liaw’s interest in myopia management comes from her experience growing up with nearsightedness, which made balancing school and sports challenging. Discovering treatments that slow myopia progression, reduce the risk of future eye disease, and boost children’s confidence in sports, activities, academics, and overall quality of life fueled her motivation to deepen her expertise. She is proficient in techniques such as orthokeratology (Ortho-K), MiSight, multifocal soft contact lenses, and atropine treatments.

In addition, Dr. Liaw specializes in fitting specialty contact lenses, including corneal and scleral gas permeable contact lenses. Her expertise is particularly focused on addressing the needs of patients with irregular corneas such as in keratoconus, ocular surface disease, and severe refractive errors.

Dr. Liaw is passionate about her career as an optometrist, as it enables her to connect with patients of all ages and backgrounds while treating a wide range of complex eye conditions. She is a distinguished Fellow of both the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and the Scleral Lens Education Society (FSLS). Dr. Liaw is also an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Optometric Physicians of Washington.

Outside of work, Dr. Liaw’s personal interests extend to her former passion as a competitive figure skater. She finds joy in spending time at the ice-skating rink and maintaining an active lifestyle. Additionally, she enjoys exploring hiking trails, playing pickleball, and skiing in her leisure time.

Dr. Minha Lee grew up in Closter, New Jersey, and received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at Villanova University. She received her Doctorate in Optometry at State University of New York College of Optometry where she was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. During her clinical training at SUNY Cornea and Contact Lens externship, she honed her skills in Myopia Control and Specialty Contact Lenses, including Ortho-K and Scleral Lenses. Dr. Lee received further training at NYU Langone Ophthalmology Associates and Northport VA Hospital to strengthen her clinical skills in ocular disease.

Dr. Lee grew her passion for Optometry from childhood after remembering how devastated her parents were when they had no idea their 8-year-old daughter was walking around in a blur. Both of her parents were 20/20 without glasses, and they never thought their child would develop myopia. Understanding the increasing prevalence of myopia and its devastating long-term damage to the eyes, Dr. Lee has become passionate about providing early intervention treatments to slow down nearsightedness in children.

Dr. Lee focuses on myopia management, primary eye care, routine and specialty contact lens fitting, as well as diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, diabetic eye diseases, dry eyes, and other anterior and posterior segment pathologies. She is also fluent in Korean.

Outside the office (or sometimes in the office as well if you ask about it), Dr. Lee is a passionate fan of Tottenham Hotspurs and Villanova Basketball (during March Madness). She recently picked up golf and would love to take your advice on your favorite course nearby!

Dr. Sam Hsu grew up in San Francisco, California, and received his bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in physiology from the University of California at Davis. He later attended optometry school at The Ohio State University and received a degree in Doctor of Optometry in 2001.

Dr. Hsu moved to Washington to practice optometry in September 2001 and has been practicing in Redmond/Bellevue since August 2002. Because he works so close to the Microsoft campus, Dr. Hsu has studied the effects of computer vision syndrome on the visual system and acquired the Neurolenses system to help those suffering from headaches on computers. In addition, Dr. Hsu is very interested in the latest technology so we have introduced the Optos Retinal Exam and OptoVue OCT to diagnose and treat diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration. We have recently acquired the Medmont corneal topographer to measure the shape of the cornea for the best contact lens fit and help children slow down myopia progression with orthokeratology lenses.

Dr. Hsu knows personally the devastating impact of high myopia. His mother developed myopic macular degeneration due to the development of a choroidal neovascular membrane when she was on vacation in Taiwan. As a result, she can only see functionally out of one eye. This personal tragedy drove him to learn all he could about the latest research on how to slow myopia progression in children, which was not available when his mother was a child. He is certified to fit many different types of orthokeratology lenses, such as Paragon, Euclid, GOV soft OK, NaturalVue, and Eyespace lenses, and is an active member of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control. Although he grew up in the US, he has worked hard to become proficient in Mandarin Chinese to help explain orthokeratology and other eye conditions to patients.

Dr. Hsu lives in Bellevue with his wife and two sons. In his free time, Dr. Hsu spends time being active in his church and exploring diverse restaurants. Of course, Dr. Hsu’s favorite pastimes are watching his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes football, Golden State Warriors, and following the Oakland A’s.
